Character NAME: Dalila "Ghost" Galloway
Canon & MEDIUM: Original
Canon PULL-POINT: Before her third death
Character AGE: 19
Character ABILITIES:
Nether Manipulation which is what grants her her arms. Since it is a comic energy that flows through both the realms of the living and the dead it gives Dalila a connection with death that most don't have. It allows her to see the souls of the dead. Usually the recently deceased are easier to see and communicate with than those that have been dead far longer. She's also able to tell when someone is close to death. As well as shape-shifting limited to her Nether arms. They can shift from looking like normal (albeit Nether'd) looking arms to stuff like blades and hammers as well as blasts. The energy itself can also be used as a kind of a shield against other energy, often absorbing it but it won't protect against projectiles. And seeing as her arms are made a pure Nether she has a death-touch, which thankfully she can control (when she's actually thinking about controlling it). The death-touch is by no means instant. It works similar to Wither's ability in that whatever she touches slowly has the life drained from them.
The Nether energy also grants her semi-immortality. She can die but she doesn't stay dead. Depending on the severity of the injury that killed her will determine how long it takes for her body to regenerate and revive itself. In the meantime she appears dead. A week is typically the longest she'll stay dead for any mortal wound. The only way for her to remain dead is if her head is kept away from her body or if her body/head is completely destroyed. She can't regenerate a whole new body or missing limbs. Those need to be somewhat attached for her to keep them. And no her body won't stink or anything during the time she's dead, it goes into a state similar to suspended animation. She'll also heal from wounds faster than most, but it's by no means instantaneous regeneration.
She can turn invisible for short periods of time, we're talking like for maybe ten minuets out of every five hours.
She can also become intangible for short periods of time. There's no limit on how often she can do this but she can't simply remain intangible for a long period of time.
She's also capable of flight at speeds that can break the sound barrier, not that she ever has a reason to fly that fast.
Since Nether is a cosmic force this does put Dalila on an A Rank level, if not higher. Nether manipulation practically grants her godhood. Although she has yet to unlock the full extent of her powers.
It's worth noting that Nether energy feeds off other energy types so she may drain the batteries on things without meaning to.
Character HISTORY:
Thousand of years ago, when human race was really just starting to settle into various parts of the world, an alien race known as the Zulera visited Earth. They're goal was as it had always been with every other planet they visited, to created the perfect biological weapons to add to their army. To conquer all that stood before them. However over a few centuries of biological experimentation and selective breeding with the other alien species they carried with them the experiment ended in failure. Any human that had been tampered with either showed no abilities or could not be controlled. Those that couldn't be controlled were sealed away, entombed in pods that kept them in suspended animation. Some samples were kept while others were exterminated. The bulk of their forces left while a few remained behind under the pretense of watching over the humans. The took up residence below ground and in an undersea city that we would know as Atlantis.
Time passed and a few specimens had somehow managed to avoid being destroyed or kept. They passed on their corrupt DNA and over the generations some rare human would be born with abilities. Many Mythological figures that we read about today were simply human mutations. The Zulera that remained on Earth didn't really seem to care that their experiments were finally showing results. By that time many of the original members were long dead and experiments forgotten. However, as more mutants began to surface the Zulera stepped forward and made themselves known to the world. While they're not treated any better than mutants by most by aren't sought out to be killed. Mostly due to the fact that they stick to their own underground cities and Atlantis.
Time continued forward and more mutants began to appear. However the number was always significantly less than that of normal humans. In some countries they were given high places of honour and revered. In others they were seen as threats and often killed as witches and demons.
In more modern times many countries set about to enlist mutants in special military units. Others simply ignored the problem and let the populace deal with it on their own. In some mutants continued to be hunted down and killed. Some mutants left their home countries to form their own island nation or joined the Zulera that still remained on Earth and live side by side with them.
In most ways Earth parallels our own. History played out much the same only many mutants were soldiers during wars. So they may have lasted longer or shorter depending on who had the advantage. However the outcome remained the same.
The United States is one of the few countries that can't seem to make up it's mind on what it wants to do with the mutants. It also has the highest concentration of mutants outside of Seriva, the island nation that houses nothing but mutants. There's a constant battle going on about making all the mutants register and be packed into cities of their own around the country. Or just letting them live normal lives like humans. For the time being man groups of mutants work to protect the human populace from any mutant threats that pop up because of these debates. However, even they are seen as threats by the general populace.
One of these groups is known as The Krewe. Their leader is Ovan Leanders aka Lark. Over the past decade he has worked hard to gather mutants under his wing and to help the humans realize that the mutants aren't a threat. While his identity is publicly known he doesn't make the other members of his team step forward to reveal their identities. That's entirely up to them. Lark's excellent at hand to hand combat but his mutant abilities allow him to manipulate the state of mind of others through whistling. He can cause people to go to sleep, calm them down, send them into a rage, and many other things with just a whistle.
The core of the team includes:
Doc, real name unknown. He's one of Lark's oldest friends and co-leads the team. His abilities made him best suited as the team medical officer.
Maho Tsukishima aka Mind. She's a telepath and while she's not best suited for the field she does a great job at keeping the team co-ordinated.
There are several other members of the team, all with their own special abilities, mutant or otherwise.
Mutants are ranked by their abilities using a letter system, A is the highest while F is the lowest.
Ghost is an A Rank mutant.
From an early age death has always seemed to be pretty close with Dalila. A car accident killed her father and her mother was kept alive long enough to give birth to her. After she was put up for adoption. She was lucky enough to be adopted by a loving couple.
At the age of five she developed vitiligo. It was fairly unnoticeable at first but with the way children are the patches of depigmented skin became more noticeable over time. This made making new friends difficult for Dalila so she only ever had a few friends. Her attempts to win new people over with her personality were often overshadowed by her skin condition.
And life didn't get any easier. When she was ten a drunk driver collided with the car her parents and herself had been traveling in on their way home dinner. Both of her parents were killed instantly and Dalila was badly injured. She spent nearly a month in a coma and when she woke up she found she'd lost both her arms. It was a few more months before she was well enough to leave the hospital and taken into the care of her adoptive grandmother. The woman did her best to care for Dalila but it was difficult for them both. Time passed and Dalila began to learn how to function without her arms.
And then around the time of her twelfth birthday her mutant power manifested. The force of which was so powerful that leveled half of her grandmother's house. Luckily her grandmother had been in the other half of the house at the time. Unluckily, the collapse killed Dalila. Or so everyone thought.
A few days later, at her own funeral, Dalila awoke. Needless to say that didn't go over well and she ran. Before long Lark, Doc, and Mind located her and took her in. Her powers were incredibly unstable so helping her at first was difficult. Only Doc could get close enough to her without being killed by Dalila's Nether energy. Mind was able to help by putting safety locks on Dalila's abilities. Only taken them off when it was felt that the girl could move onto the next step.
Eventually she was able to control the Nether but she had significant difficulty getting it take any shape or remain tangible. Luckily Lili Galochio, a technopath and intuitive mechanic, was brought in. She was able to develop devices that would allow Dalila to better control the Nether. The devices were grafted onto her shoulders and allowed her finally form the Nether energy into hands and arms and be able to touch things. Of course she's incapable of actually feeling anything with the Nether hands but she can at the very least detect how much pressure she's putting out.
From then on Dalia's powers grew rapidly and eventually she was allowed to join the rest of the team on the field. Her first fight was a spectacular failure in which she was nearly killed by a berserking mutant (named Berserker...he's very original).
In time she improved in the field, becoming a great asset to the team.
Tensions between humans and mutants escalated to the point a special task force (AMC - Anti-Mutant Commission) that would hunt mutants. Dalila, now going by Ghost, became a target due to the insanely high level of her abilities. Somehow she was caught off guard by one of the AMC members and stabbed through the heart. Her death caused an instant release of her Nether energy that destroyed much of the surrounding area and killed many of the AMC members as well as innocent people. Before the Krewe could retrieve her body the task force got to it and took it back to their headquarters for further study.
Since it was a top priority to examine her corpse first she was placed in their morgue. At the time the task force was completely unaware of Ghost's semi-immortal status. She reawakening and escape coincided with a rescue mission from the Krewe. She was returned to to the Krewe base and allowed time to properly recover.
The AMC remained strong and only seemed to grow stronger over the following months. The eventually located the Krewe's HQ and targeted it. The Krewe didn't have long to evacuate before the place would be blown sky high so Ghost, in a desperate act to make sure her friends would get away safely, went to meet the AMC head on. Her actions allowed the rest of the group to get away safely but once again cost her her life. And once again her body ended up in the hands of the AMC. However she will be pulled from just before the AMC shots her full of holes and kills her.
Character PERSONALITY:
Despite all the shit she's been through Dalila is a very upbeat girl. She appears to have a bright outlook on life and is really friendly. She's even a bit cocky. Even before her mastery of Nether energies she didn't let her disability keep her down. She doesn't like accepting help if she thinks she can do something. She doesn't act like she's out to prove she isn't helpless she just thinks it's stupid for people to waste their time on helping her when she knows she can do something. She will ask for help when she thinks she needs it but only then.
She isn't too concerned about making a lot of friends. She feels she only needs a few and that's good enough for her. This stems from the fact that she never had a lot of friends while growing up due to her skin condition. But if someone wants to be friends with her she won't say no. Not unless they give her a reason to. And once someone becomes her friend she's fiercely loyal to them. Willing to do anything to keep them safe.
She's generally pretty trusting of people and tries to see the good in everyone.
She can be rather reckless in combat situations due to her semi-immortality and healing factor. Sure it hurts, a lot, but she figures if anyone has to be injured or die in a situation it should be her since she'll just come back. So she can be seen as self-sacrificing but that's really only something she'd do for someone she cares about.
Despite her often upbeat attitude and the appearance that nothing really bothers her she has trouble sleeping. She's often plagued by nightmares. Sometimes they get bad enough that she'll seem like a completely different and very cranky person. In cases like this she's more likely to pick fights, where as she would normally just let things slide. She doesn't like to talk about the nightmares or a lot of the stuff that happened in her past. Not because she's afraid of what people might think but because it's just painful.
Her intelligence is about average. And most of the time she does a good job of staying focused in most situations but if she finds something boring she's bound to fall asleep.
Despite appearing carefree she's really not. She's super careful about her appearance and everything she does around others, as she's well aware just how off putting her abilities and appearance can be. She doesn't abuse her powers, with the exception of the Nether arms, as they simply make life more convenient. Except when in the heat of the moment, she then tends to forget how off putting her abilities can be or just how powerful she is. She's completely against people abusing their powers in any way.

Chosen WEAPON:
Her Nether Arms will remain her weapon of choice.
I'm not really sure about the evolution of them. Perhaps over time she'll be able to transform her arms more quickly. Perhaps they won't vanish in her sleep and control of them will be a less conscious effort. Maybe she won't have to think too hard about keeping her arms from adsorbing other energies and they'll only do it when needed. Maybe she won't have to consciously keep her "death touch" under control and it'll only work when absolutely needed.
Chosen SKILLSET:
While quite capable of face to face combat with one or more opponents she's also really good for gathering intel.
Character INVENTORY:
Her uniform - full body coverage with the exception of her shoulders/arms. It also includes a helmet that has various tech built into it. The goggles on the helmet allow her to see in different spectrums as well as communicate with other team members (which won't be any use here unless she can have it modified to tap into her tablet). The mask contains a voice modulator and can act as a gasmask if needed. She can also regulate the sound an in area to pick out certain sounds.
Obviously the regulator/stabilizers will still be attached to her shoulders.

[The sound of someone drawing in a deep breath then slowly letting it out can be heard. It's soon followed by some shuffling before the tablet's owner speaks up.]
'M sure you lot get this a lot when someone new shows up but what th' ever lovin' hell have I jus' been brought into? 'M sorry but I kinda nodded off durin' mosta that explanation.
I mean, it sure is mighty nice t' set me up wi' everything I might need but I really need t' be gettin' back home. See there's kind o' this situation I need t' be dealing wi' and I can't be dilly dallying around here.
So if someone could jus' point me toward th' exit I'll be seein' m'self out.
[There's some rustling and a few creative curses whispered by the user as she tries to figure out how to turn this thing off.]
Third PERSON:
Ghost sat slumped in her chair, her head resting against the top of the chair's back. She was still mostly in uniform minus her mask and a little bit of drool could be seen trinkling from the corner of her lip. Her snoring was soft until something startled her awake. She gave a loud snort before jerking upright, eyes wide. She looked around the room before remembering she wasn't home.
She slumped back into the chair with a long sigh. She was worried sick about the situation back home. What would she be returning to? Just before she had been pulled her she was rushing into the firing squad to make sure her team mates could make it out safe. Lark had tried to stop her, he always did, but she wouldn't listen. She was the only one that hold off the task force and survive it all. Although her version of surviving it would be coming back in a few days. Hopefully there wouldn't be a repeat of last time where she ended up in the Anti-Mutant Commission's headquarters.
After a few moments she rose from the chair. Shadowy tendrils appeared from her shoulders and formed into her arms. She still hadn't figured out how to keep her arms manifested while in her sleep but it never bothered her. It just bothered everyone else.
She strode into the kitchen and began to make herself some tea, she needed something to help calm her since her adrenaline was still pumping from waking up like she did.
» ADDITIONAL NOTES
I realize her semi-immortality might be moot in this setting.
